FARM LIFE

FARM LIFE

Good Morning everyone! It's going to be a gorgeous day. A friend of mine has a Tennessee Walker stallion that I'm going to go ride at lunch today. I've been asked for an update on Amanda and a couple of horses I have. so here goes.

my daughter, amanda, was seeing a guy that had been in the marines, but that fell apart because he caught in a web of lies, and he had an affair on amanda with his boss's daughter who happened to work for the same company as he and Billy. Well 'Casey' lost his job. The other woman also lost her job. and amanda told him in short order to take a hike and she's not looked back since. However, she is now living with a guy who spent some time in the army. He's 28, disrespectful to me, prejudiced, and a bonafide smartass in every facet of the meaning. I don't like him as much as amanda does not like Billy. We have simply agreed that we each hold no fondness for our significant others and have agreed to not talk about that part of our lives with one another. Mike, her fiance, butted in where he doesn't belong during some arguments between Amanda and me, where he had no place to be. He stood in my own home and got very disrespectful & I just cannot overlook that. She has a beef with Billy because he called her on her lack of help toward me when i had gotten sick and was in the hospital. And Amanda also does not have her boys with her right now. They don't seem to be welcome at Mike's aunt's, where they are living right now. So the grandsons are living with their daddy's mama for now. I go see them, and spend time with them from time to time. We grandmothers have been able to put aside our differences for the sake of the grandchiildren. That's a good developement in all this. I'm just afraid that Amanda is really making some bad decisions right now regarding this "Mike". Why is she with someone who is not working, is not taking care of her, and where her children are not welcome?

Now, about my horses. Several months ago I bought a Tennessee walker stud colt. the friend I bought him from let the mare and colt come out to our farm when he was only 1 month old. At 3 1/2 months old he was weaned and the mama sent back to her own farm. I toyed with several names for this colt. One was Ace. That's his nickname now. But officially his name is "Cash's High Dollar", and I call him Dollar now. Dollar's father is named Cash. His mother is Push Lady. Cash's High Dollar sounded like a regal name for a money-maker to me. It is my hope to do some cross-country competition with him, but he has to be 4 yrs old before allowed to enter one of those competitions. He's only 9 months old.

Dollar is very smart. He will walk up to me or back off away from me on command. He will do change directions in the round pen on cue and do what I call 'switchbacks'. That's the instant change of direction without change of gait, and without a rope. He will follow me at my shoulder without a leadrope. and i am currently teaching him to lay down. I am able to make him lie down now with little effort, but I am trying to teach him to do it on cue by voice command. From that he will learn to sit, bow and play dead like my dog does.

I have a new mare whose name is Sassy. He former name is Farrah. She lived in a barron area, with a half built fence, bad hay, and stale water and no companion. The man who owned her worked out of town a lot and simply had not time for her. She's underweight by about 150 lbs. So i'm having to try to fatten her up. I bought her for a mear $200. He was needing the money for an emergency situation of his own, and to simply get rid of her as his brother was not giving her the care she needed, and Wayne was out of town driving trucks all the time. He just was not able to be home and care for this little horse.

Well, she's an ordinarry looking little bay, about 15 hands tall. But to ride her, it's something else. she's a Tennessee Walker/Saddlebred/standardbred mix. She's got a smooth gait that's very comfortable and she can get on down the road quite nicely. I changed her name though, as Farrah always reminded me of Farrah Fawcett, and she doesn't look nor act like a Farrah. I first called her Dakota because she looks much like Shakota, my little Standardbred. But I decided that the names would become confusing to them as they sound so similar. Then one evening I was feeding Farrah and she got a little sassy with me and showed some spunk and attitude. That's the moment I decided her name is Sassy. And she's been "Sassy" ever since. It just suits her. Sassy is a calm mare, spooks at nothing ..... so far.....from dogs to big loud garbage trucks and 18 wheelers. If she can handle all that then she's alright in my book. She just gets a little willfull at times and "talks back" about what I'm asking of her. But she'll respond to me quite well. It seems that she does not like men very much. I finally let her out to run the pasture with Mama and Jubilee. they're getting along nicely. I have to keep shakota put to himself though because he wants to fight. Dollar has to be separated too because I can't take the chance of his being kicked and hurt from the larger, older horses picking at him.

tomorrow i am taking all 5 horses to the vet. that's a horrendous vet bill. between $500-$600. shakota's got a cold so that will take some penecillan and antibiotics. and Mama horse I HOPE is pregnant by Dollars daddy - Cash. We bred her last year and she didn't take. I hope she took this year. I'll be greatly disappoinnted if she didn't. I want a foal out her very badly.

It's been so cold down here. I ride when it warms up to 50-60 degrees. But am known to take out at 4045 degrees. I haven't done that lately. Lazy I guess. I'm ready for the spriing trailrides to start up. I miss riding with my friends.

A couple of firefighters from Kilgore were killed this week during a training operation. they fell apparently from one of the high rise college dormitories. One man was Kyle Perkins. I knew him. He was only 45 yrs. old. He and his family were our neighbors when our kids were growing up together. His daughter and Amanda were friends when they were little. they moved out of the neighborhood when the kids were in their teens. He was a city volunteer, owned a tire shop that he inherited from his father, was in a barber shop quartet, and had been a firefighter for 4 yrs. It's sort of a shock to lose Kyle. He was a well known man around our little town. It's a real loss to have his light go out in this world.

Well, that's about it for now. I've gotta get myself together and get ready to go ride bear's stallion. That's going to be fun.

Take care. I hope the sun shines for each of you today.

GOTTA LOVE THOSE HORSES!

GOTTA LOVE THOSE HORSES!

I did go ride Bear's Tennessee walker. Man do I wish I could buy that horse. he's awesome. Smooth. Quick. Feels like your sittin in a rockin chair. His name is Midnight. and he's awesome! He carried me down a long black top road today about 8 miles. Just we two. After I figured out where his cue spots were..... it was over. We were cruisin' down some road now! taka....taka.....taka.....what a beat he had. He was a steady horse. didn't spook at anything....no dogs or cows. Got a little excited once when another stud ran up to the fence, but other than that..... no problem. Midnight is, of course, black. so black he's blue. long mane and tail. big regal head. he is reallly something to look at.

i have a friend that's a 70 yr old man with money to burn. i have just discovered that he has 'designs' on me. he's trying to get me to start 'courting' him. lol. in all honesty.....it's actually tempting....however, he's only been married 7 times. hell this is my 4th. what am i talkin about? lol anyway.....the option is there if i want it. He ain't much to look at really. about 6 ft. 250 or so, biker appearance - just a llittle rough around the edges is all. He wears a lot of gold and diamonds. and i don't mean cheap either! hell - he's even got a gold tooth! lol. but he is big teddy bear. he has $1000 in his pocket at any given moment. has been a loan shark at one time in his life, but no more. he's into a lot business around town. not a man to take lightly. yet he's sure got a sweet spot for me. Man o man how do i get myself in these situations?! "grin"

my friend Shonda came for a visit today. i was sure happy to see her. when bill's home i don't get to see her very much. when he's gone we hang together a lot. i miss her when we don't see one another. she tells me thatt i am missed too. that's nice to know.

bill and i went to a couple's house tonight. Bill and Brenda. we've not seen them in a long time, as we sort of stopped going over there because they never, i do mean never, come visit us. it's become very one sided and feels old. they both drink a lot and are functioning alcoholics and neither is very sociable as far as going anywhere goes. We like 'em ..................it's just that after tonghts effort, again, they're unchangeable. they're always gonna be the way they are. that simple. i don't understand people without a dream in their life. somehow they just seem to have lost heart. it's sad to me.

and that, my friends, was my day. different than usual. a good day overall. ok.....c ya'll later. have a good one folks!

Which item, the lounge chair, the sand or the water has the highest specific heat?

You're lying in a canvas lounge chair enjoying the sunshine, you decide it's time to go test the water. You take off your shoes, and start walking across the black sand beach to get to the water. Better run! The sand is hot. The cool water feels good on your burning feet. Which item would take the least energy to increase itrs temperature?

The Black San

What if one of your bar customers stripped naked, and then fell asleep near the bathroom?

What if one of your bar customers stripped naked, and then fell asleep near the bathroom?

That really happened. This loyal customer at a bar got so drunk drinking Bacardi 151, that he wanted to crash on a beach chair in the foyer near the bathroom, and then all night when we wanted to use the loo, there is a naked man lying on the beach chair. Women were there too. What would you do?

Yeah I agree cover the poor guy up and then continually check on him to make sure he is ok. Or you could always call someone to come pick him up and bring him home.

Why does your heart start racing when you're in the heat?

Why does your heart start racing when you're in the heat?

Yesterday, when I was laying in the sun on my beach chair, my heart started beating really fast, even though I wasn't moving at all, except to turn over on the other side. Why does the heat make your heart beat so fast without any movement involved?

It more than likely wasn't the heat that caused your Tachycardia (rapid heart beat). Tachycardia can be caused by many things including; stress, dehydration, fever, and hyperventilation among other causes. What you describe sounds like orthostatic hypotension (Which is a sudden drop in your blood presssure from changing position). For example sitting up too fast from a seated or lying position. If you keep having tachycardia then you might want to get it checked out. But to me it sounds like you had an experience with the orthostatic hypotension.

How to put a floor on sand for a beach wedding?

i plan on having my wedding on miller beach but i need ideas of how to stablize the chairs from sinking.

Hi there and congratulations. Most people do not use any special flooring as the chairs sinking is not such a big issue, but if you really want to go with flooring, the best would be a wooden floor. Get a local hire company to install a floor for you with plywood. You can paint it or just cover it up with a little sand for a natural look. It can be pricey and you will need permission from your local municipal council. Otherwise go for seating that will definately not sink into the sand like haybales or large picnic blankets with pillows.

What should I take to the beach with a 10 month old?

We are planning a family trip to the beach this summer and my daughter will be 10 months at the time. I know I need to take the necessities, like diapers, wipes, sunscreen, etc, but I'm looking for things to help make the trip easier. Like things we can use instead of taking the "bigger" items.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We currently have - pack n play (for sleep) and a fisher price booster seat with a tray (for high chair.) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

You should take Mikki Shima to the beach with a 10 month old!!!
